The flora and fauna of the world continue to be at great risk due to the rapid development, pollution and the toppling dominoes that contribute to this collapse. This has led to the categorization of species under the IUCN List of Threatened Species, however this may vary as we zoom in on specific countries and regions.
Although the Fishing cat is globally classified by the IUCN List as “Vulnerable” and the Rusty-spotted cat as “Near Threatened”, in Sri Lanka they are locally classified as “Endangered”.

On this Endangered Species Day, let’s raise awareness on the importance of protecting these special, small wild cats and recognize their importance as ambassadors of our local ecosystems and work together to secure their future.
